Provena Consortium Launches as Indiana's Clinical and Genomic Data Resource
Provena Consortium is an Indiana-built data asset connecting researchers with rich clinical and genomic data and ready-to-contact participants—now more than 90,000 strong and growing. Leading health, research, university, and life sciences institutions are building the asset together and invite other researchers and industry to join.
INDIANAPOLIS (November 10, 2026) — Provena Consortium, an Indiana-built, clinical–genomic data asset established to compress the time from research question to discovery, today launched under its new name. The asset connects academic and industry researchers to genomic data linked to rich clinical data that is collected over time, along with participants who have consented to be re-contacted for studies.
Provena Consortium is built and governed by a coalition of leading institutions, including Eli Lilly and Company, Indiana University Health (IU Health), Indiana University (IU), the Indiana Health Information Exchange, the CEOs of Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, Purdue University, and the Regenstrief Institute. Extending work previously developed through CICP’s AnalytiXIN initiative, these partners are contributing the data, expertise, and participation that allow the data asset to connect researchers to the people needed to advance discoveries.
At the center of Provena Consortium is a growing community of Hoosiers who have chosen to contribute to research, resulting in the intentional engagement of patients in their healthcare. Participants have also agreed to be re-contacted about future research opportunities relevant to their health. This allows researchers to move beyond retrospective analysis to prospectively reach eligible, willing participants for new studies and clinical trials aligned to their own personal health challenges.
Today, Provena Consortium includes more than 90,000 consented participants, with whole-genome sequencing linked to longitudinal clinical data and is growing by more than 3,500 participants each month. With support from recent Lilly Endowment Inc., grants to CICP Foundation and Indiana University Foundation, Provena Consortium is scaling toward 250,000 genotyped, clinically characterized, and recallable participants within the data asset. In addition to the Endowment’s support, IU is supporting this data asset expansion through a major investment in whole-genome sequencing, including $6.8 million committed by IU Launch Accelerator for Biosciences (IU LAB) for advanced sequencing equipment and infrastructure. Combined, these investments are supporting the building of sustainable genomic capacity in Indiana and creating a resource that allows researchers to identify precise cohorts using genetics and clinical data collected over time.
“Finding the right patients for the right trials, at the right time, is one of the biggest barriers we face in clinical research,” said Janelle Sabo, senior vice president of clinical capabilities at Eli Lilly and Company. “By connecting Hoosiers with research opportunities relevant to their health, we can help build smarter, more representative trials from the start. Indiana is leading the way in creating shared infrastructure that expands access to clinical research, and Lilly is proud to be part of it. This is the kind of connection between data, researchers, and communities that can help define the next era of medicine development.”
“IU Health wants to make it easier for Hoosiers to get early access to life-saving treatments,” said Dennis Murphy, president and CEO of IU Health. “As Provena Consortium grows, it will be easier for researchers to make discoveries and for our physicians to get those discoveries to the right patients. We’re excited to be part of this consortium to help make Indiana healthier.”
“Provena Consortium brings together Indiana’s clinical expertise, genomic capability, and depth of longitudinal data to accelerate discovery,” said Scott D. Boden, MD, executive vice president for university clinical affairs and dean of the IU School of Medicine. “Indiana University and the IU School of Medicine are proud to contribute to building the scientific, genomic, and translational infrastructure that makes Provena Consortium possible. By connecting researchers to rich data and engaged participants, Provena Consortium can help move promising discoveries more quickly into better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.”
“Indiana’s life sciences momentum depends on moving faster from insight to breakthrough,” said Melina Kennedy, CEO of the CEOs of Indiana Corporate Partnership. Provena Consortium reflects what is possible as leading healthcare, research and life sciences organizations work together around a shared goal, creating more opportunities for Hoosiers to contribute to research and helping advance better health.
Through Provena Consortium, life sciences companies, researchers, health systems, and community partners can explore how to use or contribute to the resource. And Hoosiers interested in advancing discovery can learn how to become participants. To explore participation or partnership, visit provenaconsortium.com.
