Accelerate Research. Advance Discoveries.
Gain access to a secure research environment to explore clinical and genomic data, define relevant cohorts, and submit research proposals.
How Our Research Path Works.
Your account provides access to our secure cohort browser and research environment.
Explore the data to determine relevant cohorts and generate use cases. You may request deeper data access if needed.
Leverage clinical and genomic data, combining elements of both to create your target study population(s), and submit a proposal to obtain de-identified, record-level data on your target population.
Describe your research and request the necessary data elements.
The Provena Consortium Scientific Steering Committee reviews research proposals based on scientific validity, privacy standards, and data-use requirements.
Approved proposals gain access to de-identified individual-level data inside a Trusted Research Environment (TRE).
Your research may support publications, translational insights, future clinical studies, new use cases, or real-world evidence to advance health outcomes. Contact us if you’d like to enroll the target study population in subsequent research programs.

Featured Use Cases.
Our secure platform provides regulatory-compliant pathways to responsibly accelerate your research, reducing the time and cost of identifying, enrolling, collecting, and processing clinical and genomic information on a target research population. Provena Consortium connects you to de-identified clinical and genomic data and, via the Indiana Biobank, can connect you to individuals from your target research population to discuss subsequent research opportunities.
Whole genome sequencing has allowed Lilly researchers to find patients with copy number variation and rare haplotypes in need of treatment. In plain terms: these people are carrying inherited risk for cardiovascular disease and for neurodegeneration who had no way of knowing it.
Provena Consortium provided IU with deeply characterized EHR data paired with the common genetic data on over 30,000 participants, enabling them to conduct a study of genetic determinants of GLP-1 response. GLP-1 has been widely prescribed for reducing A1C among patients with increased A1C levels and for weight loss. Although GLP-1 has been shown to be highly effective in both reducing A1C and weight, there are still heterogeneous responses to the medication. In this ongoing project, IU is seeking to understand the genetic underpinnings of differential responses to GLP-1 (e.g., participants who lose more weight or achieve a higher reduction in A1C than others).
